Earlier this spring, Walt Disney Imagineering welcomed Wheezy, the toy penguin from the Disney•Pixar “Toy Story” films, to Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Today, we’re happy to share a new look at the squeaky penguin, who has made his mark in Disney history by becoming the first and only Wheezy Audio-Animatronics figure in a Disney theme park.
We were first introduced to Wheezy in “Toy Story 2.” At the beginning of the film, Woody’s arm is torn and he’s placed on a shelf high in the room where he’s surprised to meet Wheezy, a penguin toy with a broken squeaker. When Andy’s mom grabs Wheezy to place in a yard sale, Woody barely rescues him before Woody is snapped up by Al of Al’s Toy Barn – and the rest of the toys’ adventure unfolds. Wheezy later reappears at the end of “Toy Story 2” – with a new, working squeaker – singing “You’ve Got A Friend In Me.”
At Toy Story Land, guests will be able to spot Wheezy during their ride on Slinky Dog Dash, the highly anticipated family coaster that’s planned for the land. At the end of the attraction, Wheezy sings “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” assisted by Mike (the tape recorder), who’s provided him with a microphone, and Mr. Spell, who “texts” funny commentary. The friends are surrounded by a collection of toys, including a Rubik’s cube, a canister for a game called Pick-Up Snakes, toy wooden blocks spelling out F-U-N, and toy packages for an RC Car and a triangle puzzle game, all framed by a towering book, Mr. Pricklepants Songs for Singing.
