This summer has seen a noticeable decline in attendance at Disney parks across the United States. Even Disney CEO Bob Iger acknowledged during the latest earnings call that visitor numbers are “leveling off” post-pandemic. Much of this drop can be attributed to several factors, including rising costs, competing vacation destinations, and the lack of new attractions. However, the blazing summer heat has been a primary culprit, especially in Central Florida and the Disneyland Resort.
In an unexpected twist, the past Friday nights saw a feverish rush to Disneyland Resort. Guests reported waiting nearly an hour to enter the parking structure and another hour to get through security. Visitors took to social media, puzzled and seeking answers about the massive crowd influx.

It turns out that the respite from the heatwave and a cooler Southern California night drew visitors to the parks. Additionally, it was the first Friday of the summer with no blackout dates for most Magic Key pass holders. This resulted in a flood of pass holders eager to experience the final weekend of the Better Together and Magic Happens parades.
The overwhelming crowds caused significant delays and frustration at the security checkpoint and parking garage. One guest remarked, “It’s the worst it has ever been on date night,” while another predicted, “It’s only going to get worse next week.”
