Shanghai Disney Resort is adding a magical twist to this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival by partnering with the Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre. As part of the ongoing Duffy Month festivities, guests will be treated to a special edition of the ‘Enjoying the Moon with Duffy and Friends’ castle show, featuring rich elements from the famed Huju Opera.
Held exclusively during the Mid-Autumn Festival public holiday from September 15-17, this unique performance will bring the beloved Chinese legend, Chang’e Flying to the Moon, to life. Rising 11-year-old Huju Opera star Xu Zitian will enchant audiences as Chang’e, performing alongside lovable Disney characters on the castle stage. Adding a delightful local flavor, she will sing the Duffy Month theme song “Let’s Get Together” in Shanghai dialect for the very first time.
The show promises an authentic blend of cultures, incorporating traditional Shanghai Huju Opera melodies, instruments, and arias with the charm of Disney magic. This extraordinary edition is a must-see, available only during the final daily performance of the festival’s three-day run. Beyond the show, visitors can enjoy themed photo opportunities, delightful Duffy floral displays, exclusive meet and greets, as well as seasonal food and merchandise to enhance the Mid-Autumn celebration.
Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “By working with Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre, we are delighted to bring together local traditions and classic Disney storytelling. This partnership during a significant traditional festival helps us create unforgettable experiences for our guests.” Wu Wei, President of Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre, highlighted the cultural significance, adding, “This initiative not only preserves and promotes Shanghai Huju Opera but also brings this traditional art to a wider audience within the magical realm of Disney.”
