ANAHEIM, Calif. (Mickey News)—The magic of Disney is not only confined to its fairy-tale castles and enchanted attractions—it also resides in the hearts of its dedicated cast members. Meet Hank Ameen, a remarkable 92-year-old who’s celebrating 62 incredible years with The Walt Disney Company, making him Disney’s longest-standing employee.
Hank’s Disney journey began on his honeymoon in 1955, when he and his wife first visited Disneyland. Captivated by the magic, he joined the Disney family as a Jungle Cruise skipper in 1958, leveraging skills from his previous job as a bartender. His love for Disneyland led him to an unexpected, but long-term career path.
Seeking new adventures, Hank joined the Garden Grove Fire Department, embarking on a 35-year career as a city firefighter. However, the call of Disneyland was too strong to resist. He returned to the park, this time as a Disneyland Resort firefighter, ensuring the safety of guests and cast members during the dazzling firework displays.
Through his decades-long tenure, Hank has cultivated an archive of memorable experiences, none more special than a lunchtime encounter with Walt Disney himself. Recalling the moment, Hank shares, “He started walking towards my table, but I never thought that he would sit with me. He pulled up a chair and asked me, ‘How do you like working here? How do you like the food? What can I do?’ It was maybe a 10-minute conversation. That was a wonderful memory.”
Hank’s dedication to Disneyland exemplifies the spirit of Disney magic. His story is one of passion, service, and an unyielding connection to the beloved theme park. Congratulations to Hank for his extraordinary journey!
