In an unexpected twist, Disneyland Resort is preparing to say farewell to another beloved entertainment experience. The mystical and exhilarating “Dr. Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts” show at Disney California Adventure is now officially closing its portals later this month, inviting fans to witness its magic one last time.
The exciting yet somber confirmation came via the Disneyland officials to the Orange County Register, aligning this closure with our earlier speculation. June 22 marks the final day on the resort’s operating calendar for this show, although the official announcement mentioned June 30. Embedded in the heart of Avengers Campus, this show has been a favored haunt for guests eager to experience the supernatural side of the Marvel universe.
While no specific reasons for this closure were cited by Disneyland, this marks the second significant entertainment cut following the recent unionization efforts by entertainment cast members at the resort—a move that also led to the disbandment of performers at Club Pixar. The formation of Magic United under Actors’ Equity has represented over 1,700 parade, character, and show performers since May 2024, aligning these Disneyland Resort cast members with most of their peers at Walt Disney World who had already unionized.
The show, hosted in the mystical Ancient Sanctum area, showcased Doctor Stephen Strange engaging audiences with spellbinding magic tricks. The beauty of this performance lay not just in its core magic but the frequent appearances by other Marvel fan-favorites like Thor or America Chavez, often depending on the latest Marvel Studios releases. MagicBand+ integrations added a layer of interactive mystique, enhancing the guest experience. Despite the show’s closure, fans can rest assured—Doctor Strange will still be part of the land’s magic through other interactions.
For those who haven’t yet witnessed the magic, there’s still time. Grab your capes and head to the Ancient Sanctum before the curtains fall for good. Watch a glimpse of the enchantment in the video provided!
