On a recent magic-filled evening at Disneyland Resort, I embarked on an adventure that wasn’t possible until not long ago. Believe it or not, I paid a post-fireworks visit to Mickey’s Toontown, an experience that came with its own unique charm.

For those who haven’t mapped out Disneyland Park, Toontown sits quietly at the park’s rear, positioned just in front of the launch point for the nightly fireworks. Historically, Toontown closed its gates before the pyrotechnics began, only reopening the following day for safety reasons. However, with the latest updates to Toontown and the addition of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, things needed to be different—and now, they are!

On my visit, Toontown’s schedule dictated a closure of the entrance at 8:00 pm to clear queues ahead of the 9:30 pm fireworks. The land was set to reopen around 10:00 pm, once deemed safe by the fire marshal. Timing can vary, especially during off-season nights when park hours are shorter.

That night, I was captivated by the fireworks, avoiding Main Street, U.S.A.’s massive crowd by moving toward the “it’s a small world” area, an often less-crowded vantage point. Post-fireworks, a craving struck, and I treated myself to a Disneyland classic—a churro—before noticing Toontown’s gates reopening. Joining the eager crowd, I wondered if I’d enjoy Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway without much waiting time. Much to my delight, the line moved swiftly, surprising me with how swiftly I boarded the ride and experienced the latest attraction.

Afterward, at around 10:20 pm, I took a leisurely walk through Toontown. The area buzzed with activity, every attraction still welcoming guests. Mickey and Minnie greeted visitors near their respective homes, creating enchanting moments no one wanted to miss.
