Exciting news from the world of Disney—The Walt Disney Company is partnering with premiere scientists and engineers on a project that pays homage to its legendary founder. For years, the idea that Walt Disney’s head was cryogenically frozen has fascinated many and become a part of popular lore, although, in reality, Walt was cremated and laid to rest in Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn Memorial Park. But now, Disney is taking a giant leap toward reviving its founder’s presence in the parks in a way only Disney could imagine.
Walt Disney Imagineering, known for pushing the envelope in theme park technology, has announced its most ambitious audio-animatronic project yet: a lifelike figure of Walt Disney. Utilizing archival material and state-of-the-art technology, Imagineers aim to create an animatronic that captures Walt Disney’s essence and mannerisms. According to Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro, the figure will debut in 2025 at Disneyland’s Main Street Opera House in a show entitled “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” alternating with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.”
The announcement, made at the D23 Expo’s “Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase,” came with thrilling concept art and promises from Walt Disney Imagineering’s Senior Creative Executive Tom Fitzgerald. The team has collaborated closely with the Disney family and the Walt Disney Archives to ensure the utmost accuracy. Roy P. Disney, Walt’s great-nephew, has been involved every step of the way, underscoring the importance and emotional weight of the project.
The introduction of this next-generation animatronic marks a significant milestone for Disney Parks. It honors not just Walt Disney’s immense legacy but also his passion for continuous innovation. Guests will soon have the extraordinary opportunity to feel as if they’re having a personal chat with Walt himself, bringing history to life like never before.
