Shanghai Disney Resort recently marked a heartwarming milestone in celebration of International Children’s Day by unveiling its 50th Disney Fun House at the Children’s Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, China. This latest addition is an engaging playground themed to Disney’s popular Zootopia, offering young patients a slice of joy amidst challenging times.
Since 2016, when The Walt Disney Company committed RMB 20 million to fund these enchanting play spaces, the initiative has become a cornerstone of Disney’s community outreach in mainland China. Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Delivering joy, comfort, and inspiration to children and their families facing illness is a special Disney tradition. The Zootopia-themed Fun House allows children to immerse themselves in the world of their favorite characters, exemplifying our commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve.”
The opening ceremony for this new Disney Fun House was a festive affair featuring participation from Disney VoluntEARS, alongside leadership from Shanghai Disney Resort, The Walt Disney Company China, and hospital management. Enriched with vibrant Zootopia murals, a mobile movie theatre, and interactive play areas, the Fun House serves as a comforting sanctuary for children undergoing treatment.
In a touching gesture, Disney VoluntEARS taught kids choreography from the new Zootopia Day Special Pre-parade, engaged them in crafts, and facilitated drawing activities. Characters Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde made a surprise appearance, spreading smiles and distributing gifts, a testament to the magic and joy Disney continually aims to bring to young hearts.
In celebration of International Children’s Day, Shanghai Disney Resort, together with The Walt Disney Company China, generously donated approximately 5,000 gifts to Disney Fun Houses across mainland China. The joy and wonder of Disney storytelling were shared far and wide, bringing light and happiness to 50 hospital locations in 41 cities across 24 provinces.
Shanghai Disney Resort’s collaboration with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Shanghai Charity Foundation exemplifies their ongoing commitment to community welfare. As the celebration of another International Children’s Day comes to a close, the magic continues to grow, one Fun House at a time.
