It’s a rare occasion when a beloved Disneyland attraction runs into a snag, but that’s exactly what’s happened with the popular Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Mickey’s Toontown, Anaheim. Fashioned after its wildly successful counterpart in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this innovative dark ride fuses cutting-edge trackless technology with breathtaking visual projection mapping, making it one of the most immersive and compelling experiences in recent Disney history. But alas, even the magic of Disney can falter.
Fans have recently taken to social media platforms to voice their disappointment over a recurring hiccup—one of the ride’s charming features, specifically a hot air balloon effect, faltered again. The effect had originally stopped working earlier this summer but was promptly fixed. However, to the dismay of many, it has gone dark once more. Twitter user @DisneyScoopGuy heartbreakingly confirmed, “I’m sad to confirm that the hot air balloon inside Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland has already stopped working again.”
Technical glitches are not entirely foreign to new attractions, but given Disney’s stellar reputation for maintaining seamless experiences, the recurrence of this issue is notably disheartening. Although Disney has yet to release an official statement addressing the problem, the theme park community is buzzing with hopes that a long-term fix is in the pipeline.
Adding more sparkle to the Disneyland Resort, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a massive expansion earlier this year that’s set to change the game. In a bid to amplify the magic, an exciting new Avatarland is scheduled to be built, reminiscent of the awe-inspiring Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida. This upcoming project is expected to be a magnificent addition, potentially raising the enchantment bar even higher.
