At 92 years young, Henry “Hank” Ameen serves as a living legend at Disneyland Park, charming guests on Main Street, U.S.A. with the enthusiasm of a man many decades his junior. Hank’s Disney journey began during his honeymoon in 1955, just a month after Disneyland opened its gates. By 1958, Hank found his calling as a Jungle Cruise skipper, landing the job thanks to his knack for humor honed as a bartender. “I picked it up, and then lo and behold, people were clapping, and they liked my spiel,” Hank proudly recalls.
Hank’s tenure at Disneyland is marked by versatility and dedication. Transitioning from skipper to firefighter, he ensured pyrotechnic safety for Disneyland’s evening fireworks, a role he embraced wholeheartedly. “I have a passion for what I do because I feel like we are protecting the magic,” Hank shares, a testament to his enduring commitment.
In a rare and memorable moment, Hank had the privilege of sharing lunch with Walt Disney himself. “He pulled up a chair and asked me questions like, ‘How do you like working here? How do you like the food? What can I do?'” Hank reminisces. Such moments punctuate his 62-year journey at Disneyland, cementing his status as the longest-serving employee in The Walt Disney Company.
On October 8, 2024, Hank celebrated his 62nd anniversary with Disneyland, underscoring his unwavering dedication and resilience. His story is not merely one of longevity but of ongoing passion and the creation of countless magical memories for guests and cast members alike.
