The new three-year contracts ensure that Disneyland workers, including ride operators, candy makers, and parking attendants, will see their minimum base wage rise to $24 an hour this year. This is a notable increase from the previous $19.90. This wage hike comes as a relief to many, especially after the workers authorized a potential strike to push for better wages and benefits.
“For months, hard-working cast members have stood firm at the bargaining table and in the parks to ensure Disney recognizes the vital role they play in the theme park experience. These contracts are a direct result of their tireless efforts,” the union coalition expressed in a statement.
Disneyland, the second-most visited theme park in the world after Magic Kingdom in Florida, welcomed the vote with open arms. Jessica Good, a spokesperson for the resort, shared her positive sentiment, stating, “We are pleased that our cast members approved the new agreements. These agreements, along with all we offer as part of our employment experience, show how much we value them and our profound commitment to their overall well-being.”
This agreement covers more than 35,000 workers at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and the Downtown Disney district in Anaheim, Calif., most of whom are union-represented.
