Good day, Mickey News readers! I’ve got some magical updates today that will have Disneyland’s “magic makers” finally humming “Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to work we go” with a bit more cheer.

In a groundbreaking move, thousands of Disneyland Resort workers have ratified a new contract, staving off what could have been the park’s first strike in 40 years. The ratified agreement affects not only Disneyland but also Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney, and the Disneyland Resort hotels.

It was just a short while ago that a strike seemed imminent; workers were overwhelmingly in favor of authorizing one. But on Monday, the tide turned. Under the terms of the new three-year accord, employees will receive pay hikes that total $6.10 an hour over the next three years. The minimum wage is set to rise to $24 an hour this year, with additional compensation boosts for senior employees and a more flexible attendance policy for various roles including custodians, ride operators, and candy makers.

“We are thrilled that our cast members approved the new agreements,” said Disneyland Resort spokesperson Jessica Good. “These agreements show how much we value our employees and our profound commitment to their well-being.”

Ellie Gonzalez, a Disney California Adventure employee, shared her excitement about the new contract. Recalling her early days when she made just $11 an hour, she called the raise to $24 “life-changing,” especially as she prepares to welcome twins. “Now I feel like I can make ends meet and provide the best possible life for my babies,” Gonzalez said.

The journey to this historic contract wasn’t easy. The Master Services Council, representing around 14,000 employees, noted that their solidified efforts—wearing buttons, attending rallies, and sharing their stories—contributed to this unprecedented win.
