Nineteen children battling critical illnesses recently found themselves in a galaxy far, far away during a Star Wars-themed adventure hosted by Disneyland Resort. These young Jedis, along with their families from Make-A-Wish and other wish-granting organizations, experienced a multi-day event filled with lightsaber battles and character encounters.
Disneyland Resort President, Ken Potrock, captured the essence of the event perfectly, stating, “I think these kids and their families are on an unbelievable adventure. They’re going to be doing a deep dive into Star Wars storytelling, into the canon of all the stories, all of the characters, all of the adventures, all of the courage and bravery that’s truly required to be a Jedi.”
The experience included a magical dinner and show, featuring lightsabers and special appearances by beloved Star Wars characters. For these children who have faced more than their fair share of life’s challenges, the chance to immerse themselves in the wonders of Star Wars was a dream come true.
Melissa Arias, chief chapter advancement officer for Make-A-Wish America, emphasized the transformative power of such experiences. “The children who have seen unimaginable things and they’ve had to overcome the biggest obstacles. So to give them the opportunity to have a wish and to come to Disneyland and actually be a kid again is truly magical,” she shared.
Disney has long been a cherished partner of Make-A-Wish, having granted 155,000 wishes globally. This recent event at Disneyland Resort once again showcased the company’s commitment to bringing joy and hope to those who need it most.
