As the crisp autumn air rolls into Southern California, Disneyland Resort and Disney California Adventure Park have officially launched their Halloween festivities, and oh, what a frightfully delightful time it promises to be!

Returning this year to Disneyland Park, the Haunted Mansion Holiday is once again dazzling guests with fresh, eerie vibes, thanks to an all-new gingerbread house that’s a true scream—of joy, of course! Every grinning ghost is out to play, especially with the highly-anticipated “Halloween Screams” nighttime spectacular illuminating the sky at Disneyland Resort. Over at Disney California Adventure, festive events like Plaza de la Familia and Mickey’s Trick and Treat make the spooky season sweeter than ever. As always, the parks are conjuring up magical food and merchandise to ensure there’s no shortage of seasonal fun and fright.

Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort kicks off earlier than ever this year, beginning on August 23, 2024, and running through October 31, 2024. Meanwhile, Disney California Adventure stretches the revelry a bit longer with Plaza de la Familia and A Musical Celebration of Coco, celebrating Día de los Muertos until November 2, 2024.

We had the chance to delve into the magic ourselves. Witnessing Mickey, Minnie, and friends decked out in delightful Halloween costumes was a highlight—Mickey as a skeleton and Minnie in her patchwork ensemble are true treats! Encounters with Jack Skellington and Sally at the meet-and-greet stations added to the spooktacular experience. Don’t miss the Haunted Mansion Holiday, where Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas characters have put their twist on the classic attraction. Remember, it’s all happening through a virtual queue this year, so plan ahead!

Across the esplanade at Disney California Adventure, the Halloween spirit possesses Radiator Springs, transforming it into Radiator Screams. Even Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater are sporting new, spooky looks. Buena Vista Street is more eerie than ever, with the return of the Headless Horseman statue and interactive MagicBand features. Younger guests—and the young at heart—can sing and dance away with Mickey’s Trick and Treat, originally an Oogie Boogie exclusive but now a daily delight. And let’s not forget Plaza de la Familia, where the vibrance of Día de los Muertos comes alive through music, storytelling, and delicious Mexican cuisine.

And speaking of cuisine, the special Halloween-themed treats this year are not to be missed! Spicy Pork Tacos and the quirky Matcha Chai Madness Churro at Disney California Adventure are standouts. Over at Disneyland Resort, try the unique Philly Potato Dog and the Pear Blackberry Cheesecake Crostata—they’re delectable additions to the Halloween food line-up, though opinions may vary on the sweetness levels of some items.
