Disney VoluntEARS continue to sprinkle a touch of magic nationwide by delivering care packages to Fisher Houses. The initiative underscores Disney’s unwavering commitment to U.S. military members and their families. In June, beloved Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck, alongside eager VoluntEARS, visited Fisher Houses across the country. These special packages, brimming with Disney-themed home goods, toys, games, and books, are aimed at bringing a piece of the Disney spirit to these important communities.
For more than three decades, Fisher Houses have offered a haven to families of patients receiving care at military and VA medical centers. By providing a free, temporary place to stay, they ensure families can remain close to their loved ones during crucial times. Adventures this June included stops at facilities from Anchorage, Alaska, to Miami, Florida, including local Southern California spots in Long Beach and Los Angeles. Here, Disney VoluntEARS, alongside Minnie Mouse, provided not only care packages but also meals and companionship.
Disney’s bond with Fisher House Foundation isn’t new. It kicked off at the Invictus Games Orlando in 2016 and has since expanded to various collaborative efforts, including the Department of Defense Warrior Games. This ongoing partnership embodies Disney’s ethos of honoring and supporting active-duty military members, veterans, and their families, a commitment intertwined with the company’s century-old heritage.
“We are humbled to contribute to the Fisher House Foundation,” expressed Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences. Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation, reciprocated the sentiment, noting Disney’s “magical” support over the years.
The Walt Disney Company’s dedication is further reflected in its 2023 “Best for Vets” accolade by Military Times and over $20 million in contributions to veteran-focused non-profits since 2012. Notably, Disney also hosts the Department of Defense Warrior Games, returning to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in June 2024.
