A bustling evening at the Disneyland Resort turned tense last night as guests reported massive crowds and an unexpected police presence outside the Southern California theme park. The crowd surge peaked around 6 p.m., a usual busy time as locals flock to Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney post-work. However, this rush took an unusual turn, as Anaheim PD was reportedly called to assist.
One Reddit user noted that security checkpoints were shut down around 5:30 p.m. due to an unspecified incident, and many other users corroborated the heavy police involvement. Another guest recounted their experience of a chaotic line at 7:20 p.m., taking over 23 minutes to clear security, starkly contrasting the no-wait morning passage.
The choking crowd near the security points hasn’t been explained officially, but it highlights a recurring issue. In response to such problems, Disneyland introduced a new security checkpoint near the Simba Parking Lot in May, aimed at improving guest flow and safety. Despite these efforts, heavy lines remain a common sight, especially during special events and weekends.
Notably, virtual queues have become a key strategy to manage crowd control at Disneyland and other Disney parks. These are especially vital for new attractions and exclusive merchandise releases. Disneyland’s forthcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, set to debut in November, is expected to implement a virtual queue, which may become a regular feature moving forward.
