This show, a staple of Avengers Campus since its grand debut, has thrilled audiences with its spellbinding performances, featuring the Sorcerer Supreme himself summoning Marvel heroes like Thor, Captain Marvel, and America Chavez into his mystical realm. However, Disney has announced that the show will end on June 30th, with the park’s calendar listing its final six performances up until that date.
Intriguingly, Disney has already scrubbed details of the show from its website, now simply describing the Ancient Sanctum area where the show was performed. Disney explained the sudden change, noting, “We continually evaluate our entertainment offerings and make adjustments.” Nevertheless, Disney reassures fans that Doctor Strange will continue to greet guests across the campus, suggesting that not all is lost for fans of the mystical maestro.
The closure of Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts follows closely on the heels of the removal of the DJ and dancers from the Club Pixar show, a temporary feature during Pixar Fest. These surprising changes have fueled speculation that they could be connected to recent developments within Disneyland’s character performer community. In May, Disneyland’s character performers joined their Florida counterparts by voting to unionize under the Actors’ Equity Association.
Reflecting on this move, association president Kate Shindle highlighted the pivotal role these performers play in creating magical experiences, hinting at impending negotiations aimed at improving working conditions. Disney has remained diplomatic, noting, “Whatever the outcome, we respect that our cast members had the opportunity to have their voices heard.”
While speculation circulates that permanent shows like Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts may eventually return post-negotiation, there is nothing official on the horizon just yet. As the discussions unfold, only time will tell what marvels await the fans at Avengers Campus.
