Walt Disney World has unveiled its latest attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which takes the place of the beloved Splash Mountain. This eagerly anticipated ride will open to the public on June 28 in the heart of Orlando, Florida. Drawing inspiration from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog,” the new ride celebrates the courageous and inspiring heroine, Tiana.
Splash Mountain, which debuted at Disneyland in 1989 and made its way to Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland in 1992, was originally themed around characters from “Song of the South.” The 1946 film has faced substantial criticism over the years for its racial stereotypes and glorified portrayal of the antebellum South, prompting a thoughtful reimagining of the ride’s theme.
While the log-flume structure remains unchanged, visitors can expect a complete thematic overhaul. The enchanting narrative of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure promises to draw park-goers into a vivid world brimming with lively music and vibrant scenes reminiscent of the beloved movie.
Disney World cast members and annual passholders are among the first to preview this exciting attraction. Meanwhile, Disneyland in California will also be reimagining its version of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, though no opening date has been disclosed for the West Coast counterpart. Fans of the ride in Tokyo Disneyland, however, can expect the original theme to remain intact.
