What should have been another magical evening at Disneyland Park took a surprising turn when Mickey Mouse experienced a pyrotechnic mishap during “Fantasmic!” The dazzling nighttime spectacular, known for its visual effects and storytelling, encountered a hiccup that was caught on video and went viral on TikTok.
In a clip shared by TikTok user @bibbidibobbidibalyson, fireworks started shooting out of Mickey’s hands unexpectedly as he was making his way to the stage’s stairs. Mickey, wearing his iconic red pants and tuxedo jacket, was surrounded by sparks much earlier than planned. Quick to react, the performer dashed to the top of the stairs and extended their arms to minimize contact with the rogue sparks. According to the choreography, the fireworks are meant to shoot from Mickey’s hands only after he reaches the top and assumes his central position on stage.
While there were no injuries reported from the incident, it’s a stark reminder of the technical intricacies and risks involved in bringing Disney’s nighttime shows to life. This isn’t the first hiccup for “Fantasmic!” either. Back in 2023, a more severe incident occurred when the Maleficent dragon caught fire, prompting a year-long halt of the beloved show. Six Disneyland Cast Members were treated for smoke inhalation as a result of that fire.
Despite these challenges, “Fantasmic!” remains a fixture of Disneyland’s entertainment lineup. The official webpage still lists the standard 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. showtimes. Whether this latest disturbance will prompt subsequent changes to the performance is yet to be seen.
