Nearly two years ago, my teammates and I helped to build a teaching garden at Walt Disney Elementary School in Anaheim in partnership with the American Heart Association. I got the chance to go back to the school on Tuesday with a few Disneyland Resort chefs, who taught the students how to prepare healthy recipes using the vegetables and fruits grown in the garden. It was cool to see the teaching garden flourishing years later!
Some of the 500 students who participated helped the chefs make smoothies with apples, oranges, pineapples and carrots, and a lentil dish using a variety of vegetables. I could see the students’ excitement for their garden, and learning the value of good eating habits.
Talk about a lot of “cooks in the kitchen”!
