In a disappointing development for Disneyland enthusiasts, the iconic Space Mountain roller coaster at Disneyland Resort experienced an abrupt shutdown this week. Reports emerged from guests who were unexpectedly trapped during their ride. One such guest, sharing their experience on TikTok, brought this rare incident to light.

Space Mountain, a beloved attraction within Tomorrowland, has variations in several Disney parks worldwide, including Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris. Over the years, various parks have added modern twists to this classic ride, such as the Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlays in Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Tokyo Disneyland is also slated to give Space Mountain a fresh look come 2027.

On TikTok, user @drewcunn posted a video of the incident, showing guests halted in their space rockets with the ride’s lights on—a rare spectacle that thrilled many Disney fans despite the inconvenience. Another clip revealed Disney cast members managing the situation by manually pulling each cart to the unloading platform. Although the exact reason for the ride’s halt wasn’t officially confirmed by Disneyland, the guest speculated that the issue stemmed from “too many carts being out at once.”

For the many Disney aficionados, witnessing Space Mountain with the lights fully illuminated is almost a rite of passage. If you’ve ever experienced this unique moment at any of the Disney parks, share your story in the comments below! We’d love to hear from you.
