In a heartfelt message to cast members, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock recently shared the somber news of the passing of Bonnye Lear, a beloved manager at the exclusive Club 33. Lear, who worked at Disneyland for 24 years, died from injuries sustained in a tragic backstage accident involving a golf cart.

Describing the loss as “heartbreaking,” Potrock highlighted Lear’s gentle and caring nature, describing her as a person full of joy who touched thousands of lives, including guests and fellow cast members. “I have been reading so many wonderful tributes that describe Bonnye as a beautiful person who was kind, gentle, caring, thoughtful, sincere, warm, graceful, and full of joy,” Potrock said in his message. The accident occurred in a backstage area behind Critter Country, where Lear fell from a golf cart on June 5 and succumbed to her injuries on June 7.

Potrock extended his deepest sympathies to Lear’s family and coworkers, emphasizing the emotional impact on the Disneyland community. Disneyland is offering both in-person and online counseling services to support those affected by Lear’s untimely death. “We are focused on supporting Bonnye’s family and know this is also a difficult time for many of our cast members,” he added.

Bonnye Lear’s most recent role was as a Senior Guest Services Manager at the exclusive Club 33 in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, a venue inspired by Walt Disney’s VIP experiences at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Club 33 remains one of Disney’s most enigmatic and coveted locations.

Disneyland’s commitment to safety remains unwavering amidst ongoing investigations by the Anaheim Police Department and Cal/OSHA. Potrock reiterated, “Safety is our number one priority here at the resort.”
