A vital step in the battle against COVID-19, the first large point of distribution (POD) site to provide COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County opened at the Disneyland Resort last month. Located in a temporarily unused guest parking lot, the County of Orange has the capacity to vaccinate thousands of residents each day.
“Disneyland Resort is proud to help support Orange County and the City of Anaheim with the use of our parking lot, and we are grateful for all of their efforts to combat COVID-19,” said Dr. Pamela Hymel, chief medical officer, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “After a year in which so many in our community have faced unprecedented hardship and uncertainty, there is now reason for optimism with the administration of a vaccine.”
Managed by the County of Orange in conjunction with the City of Anaheim, City of Anaheim Fire Department and Orange County Fire Authority, the site is located at the Toy Story Parking Lot (300 W Katella Ave., Anaheim). Those who live and work in Orange County are able to get vaccinated at this site. Vaccines have and will continue to be distributed through the phased, tiered approach established by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
“Coronavirus has brought both a public health crisis and economic devastation,” said Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu. “With this super site, we will begin to overcome both. Every vaccination done in Anaheim will help to save lives and speed the reopening and recovery of our city.”
Those who are eligible can register for the Othena app, the county’s vaccine appointment platform. Note that an appointment is required to receive a vaccine. Keep an eye on the OC Health Care Agency website for the latest information on vaccine distribution.
Hosting a Super Pod complements the efforts that Disneyland Resort announced last month with the launch of a public service awareness campaign across Orange County and Los Angeles County to encourage all residents to adhere to current health and safety guidelines to help protect local communities. It is important to continue practicing physical distancing, hand washing often and wearing face masks or coverings during this time—even after receiving a vaccination—as required by local and state government officials.
