Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez visited Walt Disney World Resort this past weekend and spent some time having fun with Minnie Mouse at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex during the D2 Summit Cheerleading Championship.
Hernandez also hosted the Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, honoring the nation’s most spirited students, staff and schools. The show will air on VarsityBrands.com on May 15th at 8 p.m. ET.
Her appearance at the sports complex was quite a surprise for many of the more than 12,000 cheerleaders who competed in D2 Summit Championship, one of six Varsity Spirit cheer & dance competitions that take place annually at the sports complex.
Hernandez, 16, also experienced the theme parks with her family, the first time she had done that since she was a small child.
Hernandez was part of the “Final Five” Team USA gymnasts who took home the gold medal during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She also won last season’s “Dancing with the Stars,” the youngest winner in the show’s history.
