The holiday magic at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Holiday continues to amaze us year after year, and 2024 is no exception. This season’s pièce de résistance is a spectacular gingerbread display featuring a monstrous creation named Lil’ Franky, inspired by Halloween Town’s eccentric scientist, Dr. Finkelstein. This Frankensteinian gingerbread zombie lies on an operating table, with various claw-like apparitions attempting to attach different heads to his body. It’s a whimsical and eerie addition that seamlessly blends the spookiness of Halloween with the festive cheer of Christmas.
The creation of this year’s gingerbread masterpiece is a monumental task that involves a talented team from the Disneyland Resort culinary squads, technology wizards, live entertainment maestros, and the skilled bakers from the Disneyland Bakery. The finished product stands 5 feet tall and spans 6 feet wide, crafted from an impressive mixture of 60 pounds of gingerbread, 50 pounds of powdered sugar, and 30 pounds of rolled fondant, among other delectable ingredients. The clue hunters among you will also want to search for the two hidden Mickeys embedded within the display!
A behind-the-scenes look reveals that the creation of Lil’ Franky took over 240 hours, including 150 dedicated hours just for building and programming the animation and lighting elements. It’s a testament to the artistry, dedication, and creative ingenuity that Disney teams consistently bring to life, making these displays annual must-sees.
