Big news for Disney fans! The Disneyland Resort is on the brink of unveiling an awe-inspiring new addition that promises to be a marvel of technology and immersion—a brand-new Avatar-themed land inspired by James Cameron’s iconic film series.
Borrowing inspiration from the smashing success of Avatar land in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, Disneyland Resort’s fresh experience is poised to be breathtaking. First teased during a 2024 earnings call by Disney CEO Bob Iger, this new venture was later elaborated upon at the 2024 D23 Expo. There, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro confirmed that California Adventure Park would be the home of this thrilling new land.
D’Amaro also hinted that this space would evoke elements from “Avatar: The Way of Water” and other forthcoming films like “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” Early concept art tantalizingly showcases what seem to be three distinct attractions, including a boat ride reminiscent of the dark ride Pirates of the Caribbean. While further specifics remain shrouded in mystery, the scale and ambition of this project suggest it will be much more than just a single attraction.
However, the exact placement of this Avatar land within California Adventure—or whether it might extend beyond present borders—remains to be determined. The ambitious DisneylandForward project, aimed at expanding Disney parks and resorts over a decade, could see this Avatar experience set up shop in what are currently parking lots.
As of now, no official timeline has been disclosed for when we can expect to step foot into this enchanting new world. With other expansions like the Avengers Campus and a Coco-inspired attraction already lined up, it’s likely Avatar will follow in their monumental footsteps.
