Exciting yet bittersweet news for Disney fans! Plans to reopen a beloved version of Space Mountain have been scrapped, leaving the attraction off-limits to guests. Space Mountain has long been a staple in Disney parks worldwide, first debuting in Magic Kingdom in 1975 and being adored by countless visitors ever since.
Currently, there are five iterations of Space Mountain spanning the globe, including parks in Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. Among these, Tokyo Disneyland has announced that it will bid farewell to its version. The ride is set to close on July 31, making way for a completely reimagined “Space Mountain Earthrise,” slated to open in 2027.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris have both given their Space Mountain attractions a permanent Star Wars makeover, renaming them “Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain.” There have been rumors that Disneyland Paris might revert to its original Space Mountain experience, but nothing has been confirmed by Disney yet.
