Excitement is building at Tokyo Disneyland as construction of the new Space Mountain continues to progress! Just five months ago, we reported that foundation work had commenced, and now, the iconic attraction’s new home is starting to take shape. You can already see the skeleton of a large circular structure emerging from behind the fenced construction perimeter.
This massive project is dotted with cranes and scaffolding, busy with ongoing work to bring the new vision of Space Mountain to life. The site, previously a Cast Member parking lot, now features the framework of what promises to be an awe-inspiring centerpiece. Much of this structure will soon be covered in sleek, decorative white paneling, as envisioned in concept art.
As we move closer to saying farewell to the current Space Mountain, Tokyo Disneyland honors its storied past with “Celebrating Space Mountain: The Final Ignition.” This nostalgic tribute includes a sparkling themed jelly drink, special decorations, and exclusive farewell merchandise. You don’t want to miss a chance to capture the final memories at the designated photo op before the ride closes forever on July 31, 2024.
The new Space Mountain, rumored to be titled “Space Mountain Earthrise,” is set to open in 2027, thanks to an impressive ¥56 billion ($437 million) investment by the Oriental Land Company. This reimagined attraction is part of a larger trend, with Space Mountain evolving at parks around the world, from its original debut at Magic Kingdom in 1975 to various iterations at Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.
