Disney has brought a touch of magic to young patients in China by opening its 50th Disney Fun House at the Children’s Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou. This milestone is especially noteworthy as it coincides with the eighth anniversary of Shanghai Disney Resort. The new Fun House features a delightful Zootopia theme, making it the first of its kind. The vibrant murals depict the bustling landscapes of Zootopia, and a unique mobile movie theater allows children and their families to enjoy beloved animations and films during their hospital stay.

Disney’s commitment to these themed play areas began with the grand opening of Shanghai Disney Resort in June 2016. At that time, Disney pledged $3.1 million USD to create therapeutic play spaces in children’s hospitals across China. This promise has been fulfilled as the 50th Fun House opens its doors, transforming hospital experiences for young patients and their families.

The Zootopia-themed Fun House was inaugurated with a special visit from Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, bringing plush toys and crafts to the delight of the children. Disney VoluntEARS joined the festivities, engaging in dancing and drawing activities with the young patients. Adding to the joy, Shanghai Disney Resort and The Walt Disney Company China distributed around 5,000 Disney-themed gifts across all 50 Fun Houses, spreading cheer far and wide.

This initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Disney and various charitable foundations in China. Together, they have worked to establish Disney Fun Houses in hospitals spanning 41 cities and 24 regions across Mainland China. This partnership underscores Disney’s long-standing commitment to bringing happiness and inspiration to seriously ill children worldwide.

As Mia Gao, a Disney VoluntEAR, aptly put it, “It’s an honor to be here for the opening of the 50th Disney Fun House. I’m also happy to be here on this special day, International Children’s Day, to accompany the children as a happy VoluntEAR!” This sentiment resonates with Disney’s enduring legacy of supporting children through imaginative and joyful experiences, a tradition that dates back to Walt Disney himself.
