In a wonderful celebration of International Children’s Day, Disney has unveiled its 50th Disney Fun House at the Children’s Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou! It’s a magical moment as this milestone adds yet another beacon of joy and optimism to the lives of young patients and their families. Fittingly, this latest Disney Fun House is themed around the beloved film “Zootopia,” ensuring that children undergoing treatment can immerse themselves in a world of fun and fantasy.
Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “Delivering joy, comfort, and inspiration to children and their families facing illness is a special Disney tradition. The completion of the 50th Disney Fun House allows children to immerse themselves in the world of their favorite characters while undergoing treatment. It exemplifies our commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve.” The collaboration between Disney, Shanghai Charity Foundation, and Disney VoluntEARS has greatly amplified the impact of this initiative across the Chinese Mainland.
The opening ceremony was a heartwarming affair, graced by the appearance of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from “Zootopia.” These beloved characters brought smiles and animated excitement to young patients in attendance. The Disney Fun House itself is an enchanting space adorned with beautiful murals of Zootopia’s landscapes, a mobile movie theater showcasing favorite Disney films, and interactive play areas where young patients can engage in various activities.
In addition to the latest Fun House in Hangzhou, two other Disney Fun Houses were recently opened at the Shunyi Branch of Beijing Children’s Hospital and the Fujian Branch of Shanghai Children’s Medical Center. These spaces serve as a respite for kids, offering them a magical escape through the power of Disney storytelling. Mickey and Minnie even made surprise visits to celebrate these openings, adding extra magic to the occasions.
Disney’s legacy of supporting children’s hospitals dates back to Walt Disney himself, who frequently visited hospitalized children with Disney characters and animators. Today, The Walt Disney Company China and Shanghai Disney Resort continue this heartwarming tradition. Their partnership with China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Shanghai Charity Foundation has successfully established these magical havens in 41 cities across 24 provinces, spreading happiness and making a significant impact on local communities.
