At Disneyland Resort, there is no shortage of magic, but the true heart of the enchantment comes from the dedicated cast members who breathe life into every story and dream. Since its opening in 1955, these extraordinary individuals have become legendary for their unwavering dedication and passion. This tradition of excellence is honored every five years, starting with the 10th anniversary, through the Disneyland Resort Service Celebration where cast members receive personalized statues or plaques and enjoy a most festive recognition event.
This year’s Disney California Adventure Service Celebration was a joyous occasion, highlighting the milestones of several beloved cast members. Each milestone reflects a different facet of Disney’s magical ethos through uniquely designed awards.
Felipe Castillo Almazan Jr, a Disney Photo Imaging photographer, marked his 10th year capturing timeless moments, earning the esteemed Mickey Mouse plaque. “To me, tradition is creating and capturing timeless memories for all guests,” he shares.
Accessibility associate coordinator Kate celebrated 15 years and received the magnificent Sleeping Beauty Castle statue, representing the enchantment created for guests. “Magic lets us step out of time and into a story,” she remarks, encapsulating the spirit of her service.
Disneyland nurse Andy Lavadia, hitting the 20-year mark, received a Simba statue symbolizing vision and resilience. “My vision for my role has always been to remain positive and professional,” he explains, echoing the courage exemplified by Simba.
The Service Celebration also honored Rita Burns, a workers’ compensation manager commemorating 25 years with a Tinker Bell statue, and expressed her pixie-dusted approach to uplifting spirits. Meanwhile, Steven Barnett’s 30 years as a sales support manager were recognized with a Jiminy Cricket statue, symbolizing conscience and integrity.
Amazing milestones continued with cast members like Gina Nassar for 35 years of innovation, symbolized by her Pinocchio statue, and Laura Iwasaki for 40 years, earning a Donald Duck statue reflecting her spirit of humor. Dale Janish, a sound mechanic, marked 45 years and embodied teamwork with a Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse statue. And finally, Mark Surface’s 50 years in Parking Operations garnered him a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs statue, epitomizing groundbreaking achievement.
The service milestones serve as a testament to the dedication and spirit of Disney cast members, reminding us that their hard work not only maintains the magic but enhances it year after year.
