One of the iconic attractions in the Walt Disney Studios Park is currently undergoing a major refurbishment. Despite regular refurbishments, this is the most important one yet since it was opened in 2002. Disneyland Paris News takes you into the gravity building!
As soon as the attraction closed on 28 February, the engineers from the Maintenance division took over Studio C to start numerous works. Jean-Philippe Denève and his team of automated systems engineers are responsible for the key element of this refurbishment. Indeed they will work on the propulsion system that catapults the trains from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.
It will take several technicians from Maintenance Ride and Control Command led by Joffrey Boistard (engineer in charge of this project), assisted by external engineers, nearly two months to upgrade the equipment that drive the linear motor. New positioning system and better signal transmission will increase the reliability of this unique piece of engineering.
The Maintenance FOS team will also take advantage of the prolonged downtime of the attraction to carry out works that cannot be done daily. The consoles used to steer the attraction will be modernised, with better ergonomics and allowing operational Cast Members easier use and manipulation. Audio, lights and welding technicians, as well as a team of painters will dedicate themselves to give the attraction its original luster and thus guarantee Guests the best experience possible once it opens again on 17 June.
Did you know? There are 1359 moving light spots scattered throughout the attraction, synchronised with the musical atmospheres of the ride vehicles.
