Get ready to rev your engines! A brand new character named Cruz Ramirez will be joining Lightning McQueen and the rest of the gang in Cars 3, which is set to release June 16, 2017. Though we haven’t received word about who’ll be lending their voice to Cruz, we do know that the new trainer will be a young, Hispanic, female race car, sporting a vibrant shade of yellow. In the beautiful, highly evocative concept art below, we see Cruz and Lightning McQueen racing along the beach.
“Cruz Ramirez is trying to figure out how this old dog can learn some new tricks,”Cars 3 director Brian Fee told USA Today.
According to Fee, this time around Lightning is “one of the older cars on the circuit.” With some people questioning whether he’ll retire, and a new racer named Jackson Storm leading the rookies, Cruz comes into the picture to train Lightning for the Florida 500.
“Everyone can relate to feeling like someone is at their heels, that they might be a little outdated in something they used to be very good at, feeling an expiration date. And knowing you need someone to help you get a second chance,” says Fee.
We can’t wait to find out more!
