Exciting news for Disney fans as the first poster for “Moana 2” has just been released, teasing an imminent trailer drop that promises the first glimpses of this highly anticipated sequel. Disney Animation shared the poster on social media, stating that the trailer will debut on Wednesday, May 29th. The striking new poster features an innovative design: the number “2” with Moana herself seen standing on a picturesque beach, hinting at the adventures awaiting her. Mark your calendars, as “Moana 2” will be hitting theaters on November 27, 2024.
Returning for this oceanic voyage are the beloved voice talents of Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui, and Alan Tudyk as the hilariously scatterbrained Heihei. The sequel is both written and directed by David G. Derrick Jr. Adding to the excitement, Johnson recently shared behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram from his time in the recording booth, confirming he’s wrapped up his dialogue for the film. Not only is Johnson reprising his role in the animated world, but he is also set to star as Maui in a live-action “Moana” remake starting later this year.
According to an official synopsis from Disney, “Moana 2” takes its audience on a brand-new, heart-pounding adventure. After being summoned by her ancient wayfinding ancestors, Moana embarks on a daring journey through the far seas of Oceania. She faces untold dangers and navigates treacherous, long-lost waters, accompanied by a new crew of unlikely seafarers.
Interestingly, “Moana 2” was initially conceived as a Disney+ series. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the remarkable quality and enduring popularity of the original movie prompted the shift to a theatrical release. He highlighted that the first “Moana” film, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, recently surpassed an astounding 1 billion hours streamed on Disney+ and was the most-streamed movie in the US for 2023.
The original “Moana,” released in 2016, was a monumental success, amassing over $687 million at the box office and earning multiple Academy Award nominations, including Best Animated Film. With such a legacy to build upon, “Moana 2” is poised to enchant audiences once again.
