Disney fans are in for a rollercoaster of emotions with the release of “Inside Out 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2015 hit. As Riley navigates the ups and downs of teenage rebellion, we’re all expected to experience a whirlwind of new and familiar feelings. But for those who prefer to enjoy their Pixar masterpieces from the comfort of their own homes, there’s a bit of a wait. Pixar President Jim Morris has confirmed that “Inside Out 2” will have a 100-day theatrical window, meaning the earliest it could land on Disney+ will be in the fall of 2024.
This extended window is a departure from recent trends. “Elemental” had 89 days in theaters, while “Lightyear” only managed 47. Following the longer theatrical runs of Pixar’s re-released pandemic-era films like “Soul,” “Luca,” and “Turning Red,” this move might signal a shift in Disney’s release strategy. Morris mentioned, “I hope that we will not release another feature film on Disney+. If we do more stuff for Disney+, it should be a series, and then that makes a clean demarcation between what we do for theaters and what we do for streaming.”
Interestingly, there’s more to look forward to in the “Inside Out” universe. A spinoff series is set to hit Disney+ in 2025, exploring new emotional landscapes alongside the animated show “Win or Lose.” While waiting may not be convenient, fans are optimistic about the studio’s steady return to theaters. On Reddit, one excited fan declared, “This one is making $750 million plus. Book it.”
“Inside Out 2” is set to release in cinemas on June 14, 2024. Will you be heading to the theaters or holding out for Disney+? Share your thoughts below, and don’t forget to spread the word and engage with fellow Disney enthusiasts!
