Disney Magic: North West Steals the Show at ‘The Lion King’ 30th Anniversary Celebration
On a star-studded night filled with Disney magic, North West, the 10-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye “Ye” West, took center stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to honor the 30th anniversary of the beloved animated classic, “The Lion King.” This spectacular event combined a screening of the iconic film with live orchestral accompaniment and special live performances, bringing together talent from the original Broadway production and beyond.
Dressed adorably as Simba, North West made her “Hollywood debut” with a spirited rendition of “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.” Former Simba voice actor Jason Weaver, who sang the original track, introduced her with glowing words: “Please welcome the brilliant North West.” Her family, including mom Kim Kardashian, proudly cheered her on from the audience.
The night was a nostalgic trip down Pride Rock as original cast members Nathan Lane (Timon), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa), and Weaver reunited for a lively performance of “Hakuna Matata,” marking their first live stage collaboration. Lane shared the stage with Billy Eichner, who voiced Timon in the 2019 remake. Their playful banter, including Lane’s jest about his father’s fictional wildebeest stampede death in New Jersey, added a humorous touch to the heartwarming celebration.
Adding to the evening’s excitement, Jennifer Hudson delivered a breathtaking performance of the Oscar-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” while Jeremy Irons resurrected his villainous side to sing “Be Prepared” as Scar. The event also featured a candid conversation between Lane and Eichner, filled with witty remarks about Disney’s ever-expanding “Lion King” universe, with Eichner humorously noting, “Sooner or later, we all play Timon.”
This enchanting anniversary celebration continues at the Hollywood Bowl, promising more magical moments for fans of all ages. For those lucky enough to attend, it’s a night that not only pays homage to a Disney classic but also propels it into the future with a new generation of talent.
