Marvel fans, brace yourselves! The much-anticipated “Deadpool and Wolverine” crossover is shaping up to be Marvel Studios’ first R-Rated feature, but even the Merc with a Mouth has his limitations. Director Shawn Levy recently revealed in an exclusive interview with Total Film, which hits newsstands on June 20, that early discussions determined some boundaries for the film’s irreverent humor.

“I’m so wary of what I can say, but certainly there were early conversations about overt drug use,” Levy shared. Instead of skirting the issue, Levy and his team decided to tackle it head-on with Deadpool’s signature humor. And thus, an iconic line was born: Deadpool himself wittily mentions, “the one thing [Marvel Studios head] Kevin [Feige] says is off the table.” This cheeky nod appears in the movie’s trailer, where Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool playfully rebukes Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) for her offer of some ‘Bolivian marching powder.’

This moment, layered with meta-humor and fourth-wall breaking quips, reassures fans that while Deadpool’s antics under the MCU umbrella may push the boundaries, there are still a few lines (pun intended) he can’t cross. But make no mistake, nothing else seems off-limits for this third installment.

Director Levy also teased future Marvel collaborations, expressing his enthusiasm for a potential Spider-Man and Deadpool crossover. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds has been vocal about his admiration for the film “Logan,” calling it one of his favorite comic book movies, adding yet another layer of excitement for fans eagerly awaiting “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

Marvel aficionados can expect more insights and behind-the-scenes revelations by pre-ordering the special Deadpool and Wolverine issue of Total Film or picking it up when it’s available on June 20. Prepare for a whirlwind of humor, action, and boundary-pushing scenes when “Deadpool 3” hits theaters on July 25 in the UK and July 26 in the US.
