Last week, we were thrilled to join the maiden voyage to Disney Cruise Line’s brand-new island, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Having adored Castaway Cay for years, our curiosity was piqued. How does this fresh destination stack up? Let’s dive into our adventure and my honest impressions!
We embarked on this journey aboard the Disney Magic, and the anticipation was palpable as we docked at Lighthouse Point. From our veranda, the pier stretched out, remarkably longer and more impressive than pictures could convey! The island’s bustling debut saw Cast Members and guests alike excitedly setting foot on the pristine sands for the first time.
Upon disembarkation, we trekked along the extensive pier—a note to future visitors: a golf cart service is available for those needing assistance. The walk to the tram depot was leisurely at first, but it might feel grueling on the return under the scorching sun. A shaded pathway or benches would be a welcome addition. It took us about a 45-minute journey from ship to the actual Lookout Cay location, but warm greetings and the sprawling beauty of the island instantly refreshed our spirits.
The expanse of Lookout Cay is a marvel. Unlike the more intimate Castaway Cay, this island features numerous wooden decks that provide scenic walkways, only touching the sand as you approach the water. Dining options are ample with three locations offering a variety of delicious food, from hearty BBQ to tangy seafood. However, beware of pesky flies that seemed undeterred by the fans at the food stands—a minor setback that Disney will hopefully address soon.
The entertainment at Lookout Cay is nothing short of stellar. The kids’ Fun in the Sun Beach Bash with characters was a highlight, but the real showstopper was RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration. This vibrant Bahamian festival, full of music and colorful costumes, brings the island’s spirit to life and is an absolute must-see.
Our time at the beach was the pinnacle of the day. The soft, powdery sand and crystal-clear waters make it one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever experienced. As the day wound down, we explored the merchandise shop with its exclusive offerings despite the initial long lines. I snagged a few souvenirs to remember this incredible first visit.
In conclusion, Lookout Cay is a tropical paradise, albeit with some initial growing pains. The key takeaways? Be ready for plenty of walking, perhaps pack extra sun protection, and stay hydrated. Despite some challenges, the expansive beaches and unique entertainment make it a compelling destination. Have you visited Lookout Cay?
