Ever roamed Disneyland wondering about the elusive creatures that quietly keep the magic running smoothly? Believe it or not, Disneyland is home to a squad of feral cats that have been a part of the park since the 1950s. These feline residents were first discovered in Sleeping Beauty Castle and have become an intriguing legend among Disneyland fans. With several Instagram and X accounts dedicated to them, these cats have garnered a significant following online, where enthusiasts share photos and stories of their rare sightings during visits to the park.

The cats’ presence isn’t just a playful fantasy but a reality acknowledged by several reputable sources such as The Los Angeles Times and Business Insider. Reports suggest there are around 200 feral cats living in the Anaheim park, primarily seen after dark when visitors have left. According to a Circle D Ranch manager quoted by The Los Angeles Times, these cats, including one recently featured named “Marjorie,” help keep the rodent population in check—a theory that further adds to their mystique, though Disney has never officially confirmed this purpose.

Interestingly, there is a dedicated parody website, The Cats of Disneyland, offering whimsical profiles and updates on these cats, but it’s important to note it’s not officially endorsed by Disney. The amusement park does provide food and medical care for them, ensuring they remain healthy. Every so often, you’ll see fans share their luck at spotting one of these secretive park ‘cats members,’ a subtle nod to the term ‘cast members’ given to Disney employees.

Despite their fame, Disney remains tight-lipped about the cats’ specific role in rodent control, focusing instead on their general commitment to animal welfare. For instance, in 2011, Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown emphasized their longstanding care for nature and animals but did not explicitly tie the cats’ presence to pest control.
