The Reitz Theater of CRI in DuBois is gearing up to bring Disney magic to life with their production of “Mary Poppins,” opening on Thursday, June 20. This timeless musical, loved by audiences young and old, is an enchanting adaptation of P.L. Travers’ cherished book series and the classic 1964 Disney film. Blending the whimsical elements of both versions, this rendition promises to transport audiences to the magical world of 17 Cherry Tree Lane in Edwardian London.

Audiences can look forward to experiencing Mary Poppins, the mysterious and delightful nanny, as she arrives to breathe new life into the Banks family. Through iconic numbers like “Practically Perfect,” “Jolly Holiday,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” and the high-energy “Step in Time,” Mary Poppins will guide Jane and Michael Banks towards better behavior while helping restore their parents’ relationship.

Joe Sensor, the Co-Director and Music Director, expressed excitement about the vocal talent in the cast, noting their ability to bring these beloved songs to life. “With a cast of over 50 participants, featuring both former and current students, it’s truly wonderful to witness such incredible talent on stage,” Sensor said. Approximately half of the company includes families performing together, adding a heartfelt layer to the production.

Andy Benson, Co-Director and CRI President, praised the collaborative spirit of the production team. “We are fortunate to have an array of talented individuals from our principal actors and vibrant ensembles to our amazing choreographers and dedicated technical crew,” Benson remarked. The dedication of those both onstage and behind the scenes is evident through the meticulous choreography, stunning costumes, and technical precision required for such a grand show.

Featuring performers such as Rebecca Sensor, Roy Newcome, Mandi Bell, and Kendall Rentko, along with many enthusiastic members from the community, the production reflects a rich tapestry of local talent.

Performances will take place on June 20-22 and 27-29 at 7 p.m., as well as matinees on June 22, 23, and 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online at reitztheater.com, by phone at 814-375-4274, or in-person at the Reitz Theater Box Office and ACE Hardware in DuBois.
