Miley Cyrus took the stage at the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony at Disney’s D23 event in Anaheim, and the love for her time as Hannah Montana was on full display. Being named a Disney Legend is an honor bestowed on individuals who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy, and Miley was one of the 14 remarkable people recognized this year.
The electrifying ceremony sparked nostalgia for millions, with Lainey Wilson performing Miley’s breakout hit “The Best of Both Worlds” just before Cyrus walked onto the stage. Miley, who starred in “Hannah Montana” from 2006 to 2011, reminisced about her early days with Disney and the whirlwind audition process. “I remember the buzz in the Burbank Disney office during the Hannah Montana auditions. It was surreal then, and now, standing here, it all feels like a dream come true,” she shared while holding back tears.
In a heartfelt and humorous speech, Miley admitted she had prepared two versions: one lengthy if she maintained her composure, and one brief in case emotions overtook her. “I stand here, proud to have been Hannah Montana, because she shaped Miley Cyrus in so many ways,” she stated. She continued by dedicating her award to Hannah Montana, her loyal fans, and everyone who helped bring her dreams to life.
Cyrus’s journey began at an impromptu concert at a Glendale mall, where she performed as Hannah Montana for the first time. “No one knew who I was, just a little girl in a blonde wig with a big dream. But in my heart, I always was and always will be Hannah Montana.” The audience erupted in applause and cheers, reflecting the enduring impact her character had.
The emotional evening also honored other distinguished legends like Colleen Atwood, Angela Bassett, and Harrison Ford, among others. The event sent waves of excitement through the Disney community, reminding everyone of the magic and memories that define Disney’s legacy.
