Harrison Ford has now officially ascended to legendary status as he was honored with the Disney Legends Award at the D23 Expo. Recognized for his iconic portrayals of Han Solo and Indiana Jones, Ford’s acknowledgment by The Walt Disney Company solidifies his position among the greats of the Disney pantheon. Adding to his illustrious career, Ford is set to appear as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Disney CEO Bob Iger presented the award, reminiscing about Ford’s journey from an aspiring actor to one of Hollywood’s most formidable leading men. “He is the definition of a leading man, who stands alone in a category all his own,” Iger proclaimed amidst roaring applause at the Honda Center.
Following a heartwarming montage of his career highlights, Ford took the stage to express his heartfelt gratitude. Echoing the sentiment of one of his famous “Star Wars” lines, he said to the cheering crowd, “I love you, too.” Overcome with emotion, Ford conveyed his deep appreciation for the collaborative nature of filmmaking and the invaluable experiences his career has afforded him. “I love the life you’ve given me. I love the people that I’ve had the opportunity to work with,” he shared.
The D23 ceremony also inducted other illustrious individuals including John Williams, known for his “Star Wars” compositions, and Frank Oz, the puppeteer behind Yoda. They joined a prestigious roster that includes George Lucas and Mark Hamill.
Rounding out the list of 2024 honorees were stalwarts like costume designer Colleen Atwood, actress Angela Bassett, director James Cameron, and TV host Kelly Ripa, among others. This glittering ceremony will be available on Disney+ for U.S. and Canadian viewers starting August 12.
