Welcome, Disney fans, to this week’s edition of The DisInsider Mailbag! Skyler Shuler here, joined by my good friend Zach Perilstein from Boardwalk Times, as we dive into your most burning questions from the magical world of Disney! If you don’t see your question answered here, be sure to swing by BoardwalkTimes.net for part two of our mailbag.
First up, many of you are curious about the status of Bill Condon’s planned “Marley” musical. While the pandemic may have slowed things down, Condon is currently engrossed in his new film, “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” Given his strong relationship with Disney, it’s possible we’ll see movement on “Marley” in the future.
Next, the buzz around the potential firing of Jennifer Lee as Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios has many wondering about her fate following the box office performance of “Strange World” and “Wish.” Zach highlights that while Bob Iger has shifted more power and responsibility back to the creatives, misses happen. However, Jennifer Lee’s job appears safe for now.
For all you Moana fans, the live-action adaptation featuring Dwayne Johnson as Maui has sparked questions about his appearance. Skyler speculates that The Rock’s already imposing build means less reliance on CGI, but only time will tell how they’ll bring Maui to life.
Zach touches on the progress of the highly anticipated Disneyland/Walt Disney film by David Gordon Green, noting that it’s currently on pause due to rights issues. Should it resume, it’s likely destined for a theatrical release rather than Disney+.
As for Muppet fans, while a Jim Henson biopic is in the works, the future of Muppet projects remains unclear. Adam F. Goldberg is eager to continue, but the cancellation of “The Muppets Mayhem” leaves uncertainty.
Finally, fans are eagerly awaiting new animated projects. Skyler teases early development of a new princess movie and a potential Pirates project, signaling that Disney’s creative pipeline remains robust.
That’s all for this week, but the magic doesn’t stop here! Share your thoughts in the comments below, and don’t forget to check out BoardwalkTimes.net for more of this week’s mailbag. Stay tuned for another exciting edition next week!
