Calling all Disney enthusiasts (and dreamers of all ages)!
Starting Friday, May 24, Union Station will host one of the Walt Disney Archives’ most spectacular projects—Disney100—a dazzling exhibition featuring more than 250 unique items. From beloved art pieces and treasured props to iconic costumes, this exhibition celebrates Disney’s century-spanning magic. Isn’t it perfect that Kansas City, the birthplace of Walt Disney’s creative journey, is the initial stop for this tour?
Our City Editor Maddie got a sneak peek and was awestruck by the inaugural exhibit, specifically curated for Kansas City. It includes exclusive hometown memorabilia, such as Disney’s connection to UMKC and the roots of his animation career here. As you venture through the ten fascinating galleries, you’ll encounter animator models from classics like *Mulan* (1998) and *Ratatouille* (2007), as well as costumes like Captain Barbossa’s gear from *Pirates of the Caribbean* (2003) and the regal outfit of Black Panther (2023).
The interactivity of the exhibit truly brings the Disney magic alive! You can enjoy 14 engaging photo ops, listening stations, and immersive installations, allowing you to get up close and personal with the legacy of Disney. Be sure not to miss the Mandalorian’s real-life Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) animatronic on opening day, for an extra dose of cuteness with wiggling ears and adorable baby coos.
Running until Saturday, November 30, the exhibition promises an unparalleled experience for both the young and the young at heart. With tickets starting at just $18.50, it’s an unforgettable family outing waiting to happen.
