Walt Disney World and Disneyland are set to undergo transformative changes in the coming years, as Disney’s theme park division announces a slew of exciting new projects. As the Magic Kingdom gears up to showcase a villains-themed land and replace some iconic attractions, fans can also look forward to thrilling new experiences based on beloved films like “Cars,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Encanto,” and “Coco.”
The Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World will soon host a sinister new section dedicated to Disney villains, although details on the exact location and opening date remain under wraps. Visitors can also anticipate a complete overhaul of Frontierland, which will be transformed into a “Cars” themed area featuring two new attractions, including a high-speed mountain racing ride.
Over at Disneyland’s California Adventure, Marvel enthusiasts will be thrilled with the upcoming additions to Avengers Campus. Get ready to battle King Thanos in “Avengers Infinity Defense” and soar with Iron Man in “Stark Flight Lab.” California Adventure will also welcome a unique “Avatar”-themed area, complete with a magical boat ride through Pandora, and a new ride inspired by the vivid Land of the Dead from “Coco.”
Expect a whole new world at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as well, with an 11-acre Tropical Americas land featuring “Encanto” and Indiana Jones attractions. And at Hollywood Studios, brace yourselves for Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, based on the thrilling door chase scene from “Monsters, Inc.”
Disney has not specified the exact opening dates for these exhilarating new attractions, but construction for many projects will kick off in the next couple of years. As some attractions make way for these new experiences, it’s bittersweet for fans saying goodbye to iconic rides like Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America.
These extensive changes were unveiled during a presentation at the D23 Expo, Disney’s biennial fan convention. While the cost of these ambitious projects remains undisclosed, they are part of Disney’s $60 billion investment plan for its parks over the next decade, aimed at staying ahead of growing competition from Universal Orlando’s upcoming Epic Universe.
