Get ready to quack with joy! The Walt Disney Company has just kicked off a global celebration to honor the incredible 90-year journey of the beloved Donald Duck. The festivities were unveiled with a grand surprise on Good Morning America, where fans got an exclusive first look at new Donald Duck-inspired merchandise and enjoyed a studio surprise for our favorite feathery friend.
The celebration spans numerous months and encompasses a range of Disney entities, from the Animation Studios to the theme parks, ensuring fans worldwide join in on the fun. To commemorate Donald’s debut in the 1934 Silly Symphony cartoon, “The Wise Little Hen,” Disney will release a special brand spot on June 9th that highlights the character’s storytelling magic.
The Good Morning America segment flaunted over 70 Donald Duck-themed products from more than 20 renowned brands, such as American Tourister, Casetify, and Loungefly. Throughout the summer, you’ll be able to shop additional Donald Duck goodies from brands like Cakeworthy, Citizen, Forever 21, and more.
Donald’s journey and his relatable character antics have endeared him to fans across the globe, earning him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and adding his webbed footprints to the cement outside the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Mark June 9th on your calendar, as Disney’s Restoration and Preservation Team will release two newly restored classic Donald Duck shorts on Disney+. These animated treasures are directed by Disney Legend Jack Hannah and will delight both longstanding fans and newcomers alike.
The celebration does not end there. Tokyo Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort are pulling out all stops for Donald Duck enthusiasts. Tokyo Disneyland will feature “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” with exclusive merchandise, parades, and themed decorations. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Disneyland will offer guests the chance to participate in “Donald’s Birthday Duckling Dance” and enjoy an array of themed surprises.
Back in Burbank, the Walt Disney Studios lot has debuted some quack-tastic renovations in honor of Donald’s birthday, including a Donald-centric overhaul of the Walt Disney Archives logo and special activities centered around our favorite duck.
