In an insightful interview during the Animayo International Summit in Gran Canaria, Spain, Musker candidly shared his views with Spanish outlet El País. They wanted you to get involved in the characters and the story and the world, and I think that’s still the heart of it,” Musker remarked passionately. Specifically, he pointed out the 2023 live-action “The Little Mermaid” for not emphasizing the pivotal father-daughter relationship which he believes was the heart of the original story. “Companies are always trying to reduce risk by rehashing loved stories, but they often lose the essence,” Musker stated, reinforcing that animation uniquely captures that emotional appeal.
