Celebrating Donald Duck’s 90 Years with Disney Magic: Merch, Shorts, Events & More!
Brace yourselves, Disney enthusiasts! The Walt Disney Company is pulling out all the stops to celebrate Donald Duck’s 90th birthday with a grand initiative that stretches across multiple platforms and locations. This celebration kicked off with an electrifying reveal on Good Morning America, and boy, is there a lot to look forward to!
This epic months-long fête includes new Donald Duck merchandise, exciting animation shorts, and special events happening in Disney parks and studios worldwide. The festivities officially began with a brand-new promotional video shedding light on Donald’s illustrious journey from his debut in the 1934 Silly Symphony short, “The Wise Little Hen,” to his continued prominence today.
Fans were treated to over 70 sparkling new Donald Duck-themed merchandise items from more than 20 brands, including American Tourister, Casetify, and Loungefly. Stay tuned throughout the summer as even more vibrant collections from other top-tier brands like Cakeworthy, Citizen, Forever 21, GAP, PEZ, and Simple Modern become available.
The celebrations commemorate Donald Duck’s status as a beloved icon who has graced over 150 short films— more than any other Disney character. June 9 marks the release of two classically restored Donald Duck shorts by Disney Legend Jack Hannah on Disney+. Moreover, for the first time since 1961, Walt Disney Animation Studios will debut a new short, “D.I.Y. Duck,” showcasing Donald’s hilarious home repair misadventures, directed by future Disney Legend Mark Henn.
Globally, Disney parks are getting in on the fun. Tokyo Disney Resort offers “Donald’s Quacky Duck City” at Tokyo Disneyland, complete with themed décor, unique merchandise, delicious food and beverages, and a colorful parade. Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s guests can dive into “Donald’s Birthday Duckling Dance” and enjoy “Donald’s Quacktastic Surprise!” until July 7.
On Disney’s own Hollywood turf, the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank has transformed for the occasion, featuring whimsical tributes to Donald Duck, including a revamped Walt Disney Archives logo, a “Donald” Avenue sign, and an array of celebratory activities throughout the historic site.
