In a thrilling development for soccer aficionados and Disney fans alike, Angel City FC has just announced a game-changing partnership. Walt Disney Company’s CEO Bob Iger and dean for communication and journalism at Southern California, Willow Bay, are set to become the new controlling owners of one of the world’s most valuable women’s sports teams.

The power couple, who are also husband and wife, have acquired a controlling stake in the National Women’s Soccer League team at an impressive value of $250 million. Bay will take on a significant role, ensuring she fully controls the team’s board of directors and represents Angel City FC (ACFC) on the NWSL’s Board of Governors.

The team has already made waves in the sports industry by generating the highest revenue of any women’s team globally in 2023. ACFC leads the pack in the NWSL for attendance, sponsorship, and total revenue, boasting the largest season ticket membership.

The transaction, enthusiastically approved by ACFC’s board, is set to finalize within the next 30 to 60 days, pending standard closing conditions and the green light from NWSL.

“Willow and Bob bring unparalleled operational experience, expertise, and passion to ACFC and to the NWSL,” the board expressed in a statement. “They’ve supported ACFC since its inception and are deeply committed to the Los Angeles community, having been residents, leaders, and philanthropists in the city for almost 30 years.”
