Smith, who hails from YouTube, where he served as Vice President of Product Management, will officially join the Disney team on September 3. With over 20 years of experience at Google and YouTube, Smith brings a wealth of knowledge in building consumer-facing products, having significantly contributed to YouTube’s Music and Premium services, amassing over 100 million subscribers.
In his new role, Smith will oversee a global Product and Technology group that supports Disney’s vast entertainment and sports media businesses. He will be responsible for driving innovations and advancements across Disney’s streaming platforms, networks, consumer digital services, and advertising technologies. Reporting jointly to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro, Smith is poised to lead a talented team of engineers, product managers, designers, and data scientists.

Before joining Disney, Smith has had an illustrious career, helming significant projects at Google, including Google Fiber and Google Books, and at YouTube, where he led Global Content and Product across various domains such as kids, sports, and education. His educational background includes a bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Stanford University.
